“LEGO Builder’s Journey” & “LEGO Voyagers” by Henrik Lindstrand

We are shifting to a world without rules – as French President Emmanuel Macron recently put it at the World Economic Forum in Davos. And I don’t know about you out there, but I’m slowly getting sick and tired of all this mess and am seriously considering relocating to another planet. If not for real, then at least in my mind. And in my eyes (and ears), music is the most perfect way to do just that. Just beam yourself away for an hour and leave all the crap behind. Cocoon yourself in a cotton wool ball of light and comfort and feel the warm, soothing sounds wash over your body, cleansing you. That’s exactly what Henrik Lindstrand’s scores for the two videogames LEGO Builder’s Journey and LEGO Voyagers do to me.

I first came in touch with them when I saw the reveal trailer for LEGO Voyagers, whose music immediately reminded me a lot of Andrew Prahlow’s brilliant and universally acclaimed soundtrack to the absolute gem that is Outer Wilds.

Since the early days of 16-bit Nintendo consoles, video game soundtracks have really come a long way, and scores like the ones mentioned above are, in my opinion, among the best the industry has to offer. They are soothing, emotional, and comforting, and make an excellent background music for studying, working, or simply despairing at the current state of the world — which is why I couldn’t recommend them any higher.

Do yourselves a favour and ease your troubled mind with tracks like “Timber Hearth” (Outer Wilds), “Open Fields” (Voyagers) or “Campfire” (Builder’s Journey). And for those of you looking for an emotional journey of (self-)discovery, I can really, wholeheartedly recommend the games that go with it!
