“Star Wars – The Dan Mumford Series” by John Williams

Hello! Today I’m presenting you both old and new stuff. Over the course of the last few weeks London based freelance illustrator Dan Mumford released the full set of art prints that he did for The Last Jedi. I took this opportunity and turned them into four different custom covers, just like I did roughly two years ago for The Force Awakens (I overhauled those as well). Assuming that there’ll be four more artworks in two more years, at the latest, for Episode IX, I thought that it’s finally time to give these ladies their own spotlight. In case you’re interested in having these designs…

Lost Covers, Vol. 4

Man, has it really been this long already? Last week HQCovers has officially turned five. By now it has learned to write its own name and has become extremely picky when it comes to dress up in the morning. Also, its extended warranty has now expired, so your chance to file a complaint is officially over ;-) I deliberately didn’t parade this anniversary, because this blog is essentially the digital extension of my own self and thus doesn’t like to stand in the spotlight. Instead I once again let the art speak for itself. I’m actually publishing Vol. 4 of this ongoing thing,…

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Deluxe Edition)” by John Williams

A few weeks ago my dear friend SonicAdventure approached me for a really special collaboration project. A Deluxe Edition of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, containing music from both the official soundtrack and the “For Your Consideration” promo album that was published by Disney during the awards season. Sonic did all the audio wizardry (editing, mixing, mastering), while I was free to do anything with my custom cover art. And it was an absolute blast (as John Williams would call it), by far the most joyful cover making experience I’ve had so far. Naturally for this fan-release I revisited my initial custom…

“Star Wars – Target Exclusive Collection” by John Williams

In December 2015 US discount retailer Target sold an exclusive version of John Williams’ The Force Awakens score. And when I was asked to create custom covers in the same style for the rest of the saga, well, I couldn’t say no. But first I had to recreate the Target cover to get rid of that ugly sticker. And also, to prepare myself a universal template that I could use for previous and future episodes. This request came right in the middle of working on another series, but I figured a little change won’t hurt. It keeps your creative spark…

“Star Wars – The Deluxe Editions” by John Williams, Michael Giacchino, John Powell

I have postponed the idea of working on Star Wars custom covers again and again and again… stowed it away deep down in the cryostasis chambers of my HQCovers space station. But not particularly because I didn’t want to work on John Williams’ opus magnum. No, because I was afraid of not being able to do it justice. I’ve put so much effort into this or that covers series, that I sometimes find it hard to raise the bar. But this is Star Wars, the mother and father of all film franchises and fan fiction universes ever, right? It has to be the very best, most fucking awesome custom…
