Ever since Brick I’m a Rian Johnson fan. I was delighted to see him being catapulted into Hollywood’s writer/director A-list with the success of his Sci-Fi-Brainer Looper. I think the film is a classic grower, that gets better and better with every viewing. Oddly enough, as often as I have seen it already, I’ve never really noticed Nathan Johnson’s score for it. There’s a very interesting article on Strange Shapes about what we would’ve gotten, had Ridley Scott directed the Alien II sequel. Long story short, it’s basically Prometheus in a nutshell. To boldly go… where no-one has gone before… design-wise BLT Communications, LLC – one of todays leading advertising agencies – ventured into unexplored territory (sorry!) by creating the arguably most controversial movie poster of 2009. It’s a clear winner in my eyes and I was glad to see that Varèse Sarabande also used this iconic image for the official soundtrack album (#1). We don’t get masterpiece design like Moon very often any more. The official one sheet poster is not only great to look at, but also very unique, clever and it even tells you everything about the movie you need to know. Originally designed by All City Media, the poster fits the mood of the movie and furthermore the music by Clint Mansell perfectly.
