[This entry is brought to you by the wondrous magic of Adobe Photoshop] When I first laid eyes upon the set of teaser posters for Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi brainer Arrival I was immediately struck in awe. It happens rarely that I fall in love with a film poster at first sight, but I just lost myself in those amazing still-lives with their gorgeous colours and lighting. So much so that I could even ignore some of the choppy Photoshop actions in there. Furthermore BLT Communications, widely regarded as a leading player in the business, got into hot water with a…

The following posts contain original covers that were either digitally enhanced, slightly changed or completely remade from scratch by myself.
“The Dig” by Michael Land
One of my earliest game memories – and still one of the best – was Lucas Arts’ The Dig. I remember getting this for my 15th birthday. Just unpacking that box with its polychromatic finish shimmering in all colours was downright amazing. I had a friend staying over that night and we played through the whole game until 3 or 4 in the morning. Not without help in form of a printed walkthrough of course (no internet back then, kiddies!), but it was totally worth it. A film-like experience I still have fond memories of… even now, twenty years later. I…
“Star Trek Beyond” by Michael Giacchino
Summer 2016 kicks off with a particularly colourful post for Star Trek Beyond, the third entry in the franchise reboot. And what a delight to see BLT Communications to come up with such a gorgeous poster campaign, after all those wasted opportunities for Star Trek Into Darkness. I only hope the film delivers what these fun and vibrant images seem to promise. Back for another round is also Michael Giacchino and I’m really glad he stayed with the series, as I enjoyed his two previous scores a lot! The official soundtrack album (#1), once again published by Varèse, is based on the teaser one-sheet. And I’m sorry to say so,…
“Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within” by Elliot Goldenthal
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within turns 15 this year, and it hasn’t aged that well to be honest. The visuals were groundbreaking back then, but don’t get anyone excited about nowadays. The score on the other hand is still one of Goldenthal’s best. And that is saying something, because Elliot Goldenthal himself is still one of the very best of his game, even though his film score output has slowed down significantly. So, on the occasion of this anniversary my dear audio-engineering friend SonicAdventure decided to brush off the dust and polish up this forgotten diamond. And I was graced with helping out on…
“Star Wars – Target Exclusive Collection” by John Williams
In December 2015 US discount retailer Target sold an exclusive version of John Williams’ The Force Awakens score. And when I was asked to create custom covers in the same style for the rest of the saga, well, I couldn’t say no. But first I had to recreate the Target cover to get rid of that ugly sticker. And also, to prepare myself a universal template that I could use for previous and future episodes. This request came right in the middle of working on another series, but I figured a little change won’t hurt. It keeps your creative spark…
