“Bones and All” by Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross

I really don’t know how they do it, but Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have once again delivered a fantastic score that adds another nuance to their already considerable repertoire after David Fincher’s Mank and the HBO’s Watchmen series, to name only a few. Both as a film and as a soundtrack, Bones and All is more than the sum of its parts. Horror meets coming-of-age meets romance meets social drama.

The score captures all of these aspects in an incredibly compelling way, as the soundtrack album is bookmarked with four absolutely stunning variations on the beautiful main motif, led by an acoustic guitar. In between we get haunting suspense, subtle romance and bone-chilling horror.

For my first custom cover (#1), I slightly extended the official cover art to all sides to better emphasize the heart symbolism and I also added an individual, handwritten logotype, since the official cover was completely devoid of such.

The second cover (#2) is a square version of the official poster created by American contemporary artist Elizabeth Peyton. Her fascinating work of art seems to reveal only after a closer look what is hidden behind the elaborate surface. Namely, a rawness, a violent and a carnal lust that captures the whole depth of Luca Guadagnino’s truly unusual(ly beautiful) cannibal love story.

I honestly didn’t expect you to work on this one, even though you did a pretty good job at it.

While we’re at it, are you thinking about working on any of these?:
    -The Avengers
    -Pacific Rim
    -Noah
-Star Trek Beyond (I mean, you could work on someting based on this: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71isJ4Vp9PS._SL1200_.jpg)
    -Moana
    -Coco
    -Pacific Rim: Uprising
    -Avengers: Endgame
    -Raya and the Last Dragon
    -Encanto
    -Lightyear

Mind you, you don’t have to rush into working on these. I just feel like they have potentials to have some creative covers. 😉

    1. I’m pretty sure I’m done with Star Trek Beyond as I have made several covers which, in my opinion, do not need any further alternatives.
I’ll post a few Pacific Rim covers as part of a future blog post, but I don’t think I’ll be doing any more.
The remaining of your mentioned scores aren’t on my to-do list, they’re just not the genres I like to work with.

    1. Happy to hear that :)
It should be relatively easy to find the score in the current age of streaming.
The film unfortunately not so much, but it’s surely worth checking out, once it’s available for rent.

On an unrelated note, do you think you can do ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ next? Because the default soundtrack cover is… well:

      2. Unlikely! And to be honest, I think that cover is miles better than any of the available poster materials.

The second custom is absolutely gorgeous and I think it encapsulates the film’s essence in an entirely different way. Thanks for sharing it as well as the many others available in all your awesome posts. By the way, any chance you might tackle covers for any of the Harry Potter soundtracks in the future? Cheers!
