Dawn of the Dead by Tyler Bates was on my searchlist for a very long time. While the score on album isn’t quite the listening experience I wanted it to be, there were a few key sequences in the film, that captivated me on first sight – and still manage to do so. Part of that is due to Bates’ tightly focused tunes which added a melancholic undertone to an otherwise simplistic, not to say mindless story. The first publication of the score, more or less, was in form of a promotional release by Universal Music Group and Strike Entertainment in…

“Moneyball” by Mychael Danna, Various Artists
I recently took a few quick shots at Mychael Danna’s 2011 score to Moneyball. That score grew on me over the years and I really enjoy it nowadays; the same goes for the film as well. Even though the soundtracks’ only proper release was as a CD-R on demand version by Madison Gate Records, I still wanted to offer a few custom covers for it. Once again my love for minimalism shows as both custom covers are basically texture artworks, instead of the official soundtrack sleeve (#3) which prominently features the lead actor. My first attempt (#1) came together rather…
“Sideways” by Rolfe Kent
I‘m currently working on a few really big updates, more precisely a huge Sci-Fi franchise, which is keeping me busy since… I’d say, October, at least. To take my mind off of it a bit, and to give a sign of life, I’ve recently decided to publish a few minor updates to the site. And Sideways by Rolfe Kent is one of them. I’ve originally designed these customs a few years ago, but always wanted to revamp them in higher resolution. And now I did it, so my 50th anniversary entry on this blog is dedicated to my favourite Alexander…
“The Descendants” by Various Artists
I‘ve never been a big fan of Alexander Payne’s The Descendants and its musical score. I guess my expectations were just too high, since About Schmidt and especially Sideways are amongst my most favourite comedies. But as I was recently rewatching it, something changed. I got really involved in the characters and their story. And the background music grew on me instantly. As if a switch has been turned over in my head. It just clicked… finally! And how is my admiration better to express than by designing a custom cover for it. Source material was rare in this case and I could only make one single…
