“Indiana Jones – The Sonic Adventure Collection” by John Williams

With this set I’m fulfilling the second out of five promises that I’ve teased on social media at new year’s eve. And it’s really great to finally be able to tick this off of my list. Indiana Jones has always been sort of like a holy grail for me and I’ve made a firm commitment to only start working on it, when I felt like having enough inspiration to turn it into something special (at least for me). It finally came in the form of my friend SonicAdventure, who offered me a collaboration for one of his established Deluxe Editions….

“Blade Runner 2049” by Benjamin Wallfisch, Hans Zimmer

There’s a lot to love about Blade Runner 2049, whether it’s the faithful continuation of the story from original pen Hampton Fancher or the stunningly beautiful cinematography from camera virtuoso Roger Deakins. A lot of things that deserve to be praised. Unfortunately the films marketing campaign ain’t one of them. And it’s a real shame, because, considering its poor box office performance, this film really could have used some catchy and favourable media coverage. Instead we got this trite orange & teal trivialities that look nothing like Denis Villeneuve’s dark nuanced neo-noir thriller. Not like the barren wastelands and certainly…

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” by John Williams

Almost exactly two years ago I was just about to finish what would become HQCovers‘ most successful blog entry so far: Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was a massive undertaking, at least from my perspective. Twenty (quite complicated) custom covers and related in-depth liner notes. All in all it took me about eight weeks, which is quite a lot compared to other entrys on this site. That’s why I decided that this year I’ll make it fast and easy. And by fast and easy I mean that I re-used most of my old templates and knocked out this entire collection over…

“In America” by Gavin Friday, Maurice Seezer

Are you in for some good ol’ crying time? Well then let me point you over to one of the most heart-warming, beautiful and adorable little films I’ve ever seen in my life: Jim Sheridan’s semi-autobiographical fairy-tale from across the pond, In America. This highly underrated 2002 gem tells the writer-director’s (partly dramatized, to some extent) life story through the eyes of his own daughters. And I must warn you right away: If you don’t have kids yet, you most definitely will want to have some after this film. The two main actors, real life sisters Sarah and Emma Bolger, carry…

“Take Shelter” by David Wingo

Jeff Nichols’ magnificent psychological drama Take Shelter really caught me off guard. It’s one of those films that captivates you from the very first scene. The story starts with little exposition and you’re thrown into a situation you don’t really understand (just like the main protagonist). As more time passes by, things become more and more difficult. He who tries to solve unearthly problems with rational thinking, is heading for disaster – in the most literal way. It’s a true gem of a film, one that left me speechless while I tried to process the unrelenting downward spiral that I’ve just witnessed. And…
