“The Grey” by Marc Streitenfeld

Marc Streitenfeld’s The Grey took me with surprise, I didn’t expect such a meager and melancholy soundscape from him, and I mean that in a positive way. He hit the right tones for the film and made it – at least for me – much more enjoyable. The original soundtrack artwork was more or less reduced to Liam Neeson… making a Sean Penn face (#1). For me it didn’t transport the bleak and hopeless atmosphere of the film, so I wanted something else. I have kind of an obsession for minimal design with lots of empty space and felt that would…

“Dead Island” by Pawel Blaszczak, Giles Lamb

Today I’m presenting three covers for the Dead Island score by Pawel Blaszczak – and Giles Lamb, who created that haunting tune for the legendary teaser trailer of the game. I decided to give them both credit for the soundtrack, since most people associate Giles Lamb’s theme with the game. For the first cover (#1) I used the Blood Edition of the game, which was released a few months after the original game. It took me a while to find it in a high enough resolution. I also changed the game’s logo in the middle back to it’s original, because…

“The English Surgeon” by Nick Cave, Warren Ellis

The English Surgeon is a british documentary film by Geoffrey Smith, scored by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. I got hold of this soundtrack as part of the Cave/Ellis soundtrack sampler White Lunar, which contains highlights from The Proposition, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road, The English Surgeon and The Girls of Phnom Penh. Of course I had to split up the sampler into it’s own soundtracks and I needed an album artwork for every single on of them. The problem here was, that there was almost no source material available, since this is a…

“The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” by Jeremy Soule

I‘ve created these Oblivion covers at the same time, as my Morrowind covers. And in my opinion they look just as good. I’ve created two custom covers based on the different game editions, the Standard Edition (#1) and the Collector’s Edition (#2). No big deal, cropping the image to a square and adding the subtle credits at the bottom of the cover, so that it’s not distracting from the game’s logo. I wish I would have made it in a higher resolution. I’m currently revamping this whole series so please check back later. The dark cover (#3) is based on…

“The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind” by Jeremy Soule

These Morrowind covers have a kind of warmth to them, that I can’t get enough of. They represent the music on the score so damn well, as if they’re coming right out of the game’s world, Tamriel. I’m really proud of the first one (#1), the credits font look just perfect to me. The colours and shadows blend in in so nicely with the background, as if they’ve always just been there. I love it! I’m not a hundret percent sure about the second one though (#2). I think the font type I chose here, looks a little too medieval…
