Minority Report ranks up pretty high on my personal Steven Spielberg hitlist. In fact it’s still my favourite film of his from this century. Imho it’s one of those rare cases in which a stellar script and an even better screen adaptation result in the pinnacle of blockbuster movie-making. Be it the bleak and high contrasted visuals, an authentic and well thought out world, or the exciting but reasonable action setpieces (a Spielberg trademark!). Minority Report has it all. Ben Wheatley’s new film High-Rise is a highly stylized, urban dystopia. A parable of greed and class society, at times chockingly funnny, at other times quite thought-provoking. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within turns 15 this year, and it hasn’t aged that well to be honest. The visuals were groundbreaking back then, but don’t get anyone excited about nowadays. The score on the other hand is still one of Goldenthal’s best. And that is saying something, because Elliot Goldenthal himself is still one of the very best of his game, even though his film score output has slowed down significantly. In December 2015 US discount retailer Target sold an exclusive version of John Williams’ The Force Awakens score. And when I was asked to create custom covers in the same style for the rest of the saga, well, I couldn’t say no. But first I had to recreate the Target cover to get rid of that ugly sticker.
