The unwanted brainchilds, the dispassionate requests, the okay’ish ones I guess and the late comers. Also the lone wolves that’d definitely deserve a single post but somehow didn’t end up in one. They all suffer the same fate: Being dumped into this consolation prize of a blog entry, without the chance of ever being the single featured image on the front page. For the third time now. I should rename this series into The Good, the Bad and the Tragically Misjudged. But Lost Covers rolls off the tongue more elegantly. Though not everything’s lost on these to be honest. This time I’ve included two covers, that rightfully deserve a gallery…

Lost Covers, Vol. 2
HQCovers recently surpassed 100000 views and I thought I’d take this opportunity to have a little resume and see where I’m from, where I’m at and where I’m going. The Past I started creating soundtrack covers in 2006 after I bought the iPod Video, the first one to handle cover artworks. High quality scans were a rarity back then, so I began making them myself in glorious 500×500 pixels! And because I’m a kind person I shared them via the now defunct Amazon customer image galleries. Some of them are still online, for example here’s a nice one that shows my early typewriting skills. After some time I had a…
“Interstellar” by Hans Zimmer
I was looking forward to Interstellar for a very long time. Back when it still was a Steven Spielberg (and therefore a John Williams) project, I’ve already anticipated every bit of information I could find and reading the plot synopsis about a science fiction film based on Kip Thorne’s theories on gravity and wormholes exalted my imaginations beyond limits. Seeing it coming together as a Christopher Nolan flick made me worried at first. But now, after having seen the movie, I can faithfully say, that this may be the best and truest adaptation I could have ever dreamed of. Even now, days later, I’m still pumped for the…
Lost Covers, Vol. 1
I don’t know why, but a few days ago, late at night, I was thinking about all my “failed” attempts at creating well-crafted cover art. I was visiting the Final Fantasy Shrine Forums, browsing through all that awesome cover art posted there and I wondered how much time the people over there invest in this creative, time-consuming hobby. Are they as nitpicky as me? Everyone loves his own creations, otherwise we wouldn’t publish it, but for my part it sometimes degenerates a bit. I often spend hours on one single image. I’ve created one cover with thirty-three different font types,…
“The Ring” & “The Ring Two” by Hans Zimmer, Henning Lohner, Martin Tillman
Let me tell you something you probably didn’t know: Creating these covers is pretty simple! It’s basically always the same: I stumble upon a soundtrack in my iTunes library which surprisingly has its original artwork still attached to the file or a new release on the web that strikes my nerve. I turn the entire internet upside down and, over the course of a few weeks, gather all possible and impossible source material related to the film in the slightest. I listen to the damn thing over and over, trying to fully get it, you know. Simultaneousely I scatter through…
